Francesca’s Heart

Sunny days appeared blurred through the cold glass of my window
Playful screams and the sound of a soft blowing breeze would ring out in my mind
When chasing each other was an exciting game
And my heart would beat so fast

The smell of freshly cut grass
Was so intense like the deepness of your eyes
And the childhood innocence
Shared through a sibling’s embrace

I can no longer see these images from my window
Because the dark burning light has dried out my soul
I can’t feel the warmth of your sweet, soft skin
Only the roughness of reality

If I open the curtains of my broken heart
I see a solitary swing
That is suspended by the breath of life

Francesca’s Heart
Francesca’s Heart
A whirlwind of emotions

Francesca’s Heart is a melodic, melancholic romance taken from the Sonata for the violin and piano. An extraordinary and immersive take of the recording session from a part of the “Sonata for Violin and Piano” on which the violinist Matteo Valerio and the pianist Gabriele Dal Santo, performed a very personal and touching version.

“I knew that the performance approach would not be easy due to technical difficulties and a particular complexity of the score, so I decided to give more freedom to Matteo and Gabriele, so that they could interpret my composing vision through their own, personal, creative imagination." - PandolfoPaolo (composer).

Tension, anxiety, ecstasy, peace, melancholy, excitement and heartbreak,… are just a few adjectives that can be used to describe the musical contrast and complexity of the engagement with the audience, especially on the complete Sonata composition written by PandolfoPaolo. However, on both the Romance and the Sonata tracks, the violin and the piano captivate us through an intimate “musical conversation”, accompanying the listener on a journey that causes a whirlwind of emotions.

“The Sonata for Violin and piano” (Francesca’s Heart) had been well preserved for a long time before its publishing. Personally I was convinced that it would be a complex music composition, not easy to understand and appreciate by a majority of our listeners. Thanks to the extra track on the Romance part which I recently discovered after listening to all of the recording sessions, I am convinced that it perfectly represents a sort of introduction to the beauty of the Sonata itself to all.” - Cristiano Zatta (producer).

The recording session took place at San Giacomo - Spazio d’Arte on the 6th of February 2021 and the simple microphone recording technique preserves the natural performance of the musicians, the instruments and the auditorium acoustics.

Francesca’s Heart, colourful melodies and musical counterpoint are magnificently connected by personal classical rules, combined at the same time with the surprisingly modern writing style of the composer. Thanks to this, each listener is inspired, allowing their minds to follow many diverse and varied paths .
